What we do
We are the fifth generation to farm at Wykham Park Farm. Livestock production, together with cropping has always been a core part of our activities. As a truly mixed enterprise, we currently farm 800 acres of arable, permanent grass and woodland.
In the 1980’s while growing potatoes, courgettes, sweetcorn and onions we started selling direct to the public via an honesty box! In 2000 we opened the Farm Shop, and since then have seen the farm’s production evolve: firstly with the addition of asparagus, then our very special Pedigree Longhorn cattle, a flock of 250 Suffolk x ewes, and more recently the introduction of our market garden, producing seasonal fruit and vegetables. We continue to supply the UK commodity and wholesale markets with combinable crops (such as Wheat, Barley, Oilseed Rape and Beans), asparagus, beef (from our commercial herd of Aberdeen Angus x cattle) and renewable energy.
How we do it
"We aim to produce great tasting food in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way"
We try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, using minimal pesticides and farmyard manure as fertiliser. Our field rotations ensure our farmland is planted in such a way as to create habitats and food for wildlife. We aim to improve water efficiency and increase our use of renewable energy from our solar panels and wood chip boiler. We are also committed to working to reduce our farm waste year on year and recycle where possible.
We practice animal husbandry to the highest welfare standards feeding our cattle and sheep a GM Free, forage based diet, supplemented when necessary with home grown cereals.
Our farming practices are reflected in our accreditation to LEAF and Red Tractor Assurance
